Ona, West Virginia

Ona is a small unincorporated community along US 60 (the old Midland Trail) in Cabell County, West Virginia. It is situated roughly half-way between the towns of Barboursville to the west and Milton to the east.

Ona is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649.

Landmarks

Ona is home to three notable places. The first is Cabell Midland High School, which is the consolidated regional secondary school for students living in the eastern half of Cabell County. This is a rather large high school of modern construction, with extensive athletic facilities. The student population varies from 1,500 to 2,000 students.

A second landmark is the Ona Racetrack. This is a prime location for local stock-car racing competitions. The track has had its share of financial difficulties and has been closed several times in recent years.

The final landmark is the Ona Airfield. This airstrip consists of a 3154x40 foot runway (heading 064/244 magnetic) with an associated taxiway, two hangars, and a parking lot. Flying lessons are offered there by pilots. The airport's IATA Airport Code is 12V, and its CTAF frequnency is 122.8 MHz. Landing and departure control are conducted from Charleston's Yeager Airport. Ona Airpark does not have its own control tower.

Real Estate Tips
First Time Buyers >Getting Organized

Looking at homes can become overwhelming for many prospective buyers. The properties start to run together, and you have trouble remembering which homes you liked a lot and which ones you didn't. Real estate agents use a few tricks that can help you remember what you have seen.

Usually the real estate agent will give you a copy of the listing with all the pertinent information. Write down one distinctive feature on the listing sheet that will help you remember the house. Maybe the house had unusual moldings in the dining room, a red door, or unusual wallpaper. If the house was particularly interesting to you, put a big star on the top of the page to remind yourself that you would like to see it again or even perhaps make an offer. If there are features for which you have a strong preference, or if you eliminate a house from consideration for any reason, be sure to tell the agent why.

Communication between you and the real estate agent is key. This will save you a lot of time and effort in your search because the agent will show you only the homes that meet your particular needs.
